Meet Lee Mason, from Amsterdam

Coaching & Facilitation

I'm a graduate of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA), where I studied Physical Therapy. I've facilitated thousands of treatment sessions with patients in various sectors of the Dutch healthcare industry, including private practices, rehabilitation centers, a hospice and the VU University Medical Center Amsterdam. I've provided coaching for clients employed by Accenture, Amsterdam University (VU) and the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture & Science (OCW).

Throughout my career, I've followed a series of courses related to psychology, personality types and systemic therapy (including family constellations). I've helped patients to develop healthy exercise, nutrition, hydration and sleep habits. I've also helped patients to effectively transform unproductive thoughts, unpleasant emotions and limiting beliefs.

Additionally, I created the Integral Flourishing course.

My Coaching Background

I was born in 1975, in London, England. At the age of nine, I moved to the Netherlands, where I attended grammar school.

After graduating as a physical therapist of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, I worked within various sectors of the Dutch healthcare industry, including a rehabilitation centre, a number of private practices and a hospice for the terminally ill.

Gradually, over the course of approximately 2,000 patient sessions, I became aware of how much physical, but also psychological suffering we could prevent as human beings, if only we were taught from a young age how to develop and maintain a healthy relationship with our bodies, but also with our emotions, our thoughts and our beliefs.

A Holistic Approach

As a physical therapist, I developed a more holistic approach, which was focused both on physical well-being and also psychological well-being.

Between 2008 and 2012, I worked with a team of psychologists, physical therapists and occupational physicians to provide therapeutic assistance to patients suffering from a variety of physical and psychological complaints.

I helped patients to develop healthy exercise, nutrition, hydration and sleep habits. I also helped patients to effectively transform unproductive thoughts, unpleasant emotions and limiting beliefs.

In 2012, I started working as an independent coach.

What can you expect from my coaching sessions?

  • More energy

  • Better personal and professional relationships

  • Strategies to experience joy and contentment more often

  • Insights into how to utilize your talents more fully

  • Greater clarity around your purpose in life

  • Enhanced confidence

Teaching

At the age of 14, I had my first ever paying job as an educator, teaching English to dyslexic pupils at my grammar school as a homework tutor.

While working as a physical therapist, it became clear to me how physical complaints are often the result of a lack of bodily awareness. I also witnessed the relationship between various physical complaints and psychological well-being. It became clear to me how much physical suffering human beings can avoid by learning to cultivate a healthy relationship with our body, our emotions, our thoughts and our beliefs.

As a result, I ventured more and more into education.

In-Person Teaching

  • Between 2001 and 2002, I taught a course in Bodily Awareness at the Dutch Waldorf College in Driebergen-Zeist.

  • Between 2015 and 2017, I taught 6 courses in health, well-being and self-development at the University of Amsterdam.

  • Between 2012 and 2017, I facilitated dozens of workshops within the Dutch healthcare and education sectors.

  • Between 2015 and 2016, I taught two editions of a course titled The School of Transformation, focused on supporting personal development within a framework of Integral Theory.

  • In 2017, I also taught a stress management course for Ph.D students employed by the AMC (Academic Medical Centre) in Amsterdam.

Online Teaching

Between 2017 and 2021, I developed the Integral Flourishing course.

During the Integral Flourishing course, you'll be invited to:

  • Use critical thinking skills to analyse the statistical significance of research, determine the effectiveness of interventions designed to improve well-being.

  • Positively influence your own well being, optimize your potential and live a happier, healthier and more meaningful life.

  • Effectively work with others to promote well-being in human society.

My Story

As a child, I was fascinated by the power of asking questions. By asking “How?” and “Why?”, every day I would discover more about our wondrous world, in which the iron in our blood originated in dying stars and in which single-celled organisms, over billions of years, evolved into millions of lifeforms, from earthworms to palm trees, from owls to polar bears.

During secondary school and college, while gradually expanding my knowledge about the “How?” of our world, I also became increasingly interested in the “Why?” of our world. As a result, I explored a variety of philosophical questions, such as:

  • Why is there a universe rather than nothing at all?

  • What is the meaning of life?

  • How can we best spend the limited time that we have available during our life?

I familiarized myself with scientific theories regarding the origin of the universe, historical views on the nature of reality and philosophical perspectives on the ultimate purpose of life.

In addition, I developed a daily routine of exercises, including physical training, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and yoga. I also regularly engaged in meditation exercises and other spiritual practices. Gradually, my routine enabled me to consciously change unproductive behaviour and eventually become a better version of myself. In doing so, I discovered my three main life goals, which are:

  • To offer practical support to people who are interested in personal development

  • To help people lead an optimally happy, healthy and meaningful life

  • To collaborate on creative projects
